5.0 out of 5 starsWeb Cam Boy goes for it and survives! Well worth reading!

By John Yapp on 5 April 2016

Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase

I saw the TV prog that Joseph did some weeks back called Web Cam Boys. I thought Joseph came across very well, he is intelligent & focussed. He is himself, and very positive for a guy his age. As the programme made a good impression on me I bought his book, I wasn’t disappointed either. Even though Joseph had a really rough time in London & survived, it has given him a lesson in what to do and not to do in this life. Being on his web cam he is learning all the time besides the sex, how to interact with different ages and types. I enjoyed the book, I read it all at once, it held my attention throughout, Joseph wasn’t driven into hiding by the events occurring, far from it he has emerged a stronger person, I wish I was like him at his age.

5.0 out of 5 starssometimes sad, but true life of jmatt

By Dave Maginness on 1 April 2016

Format: Kindle Edition

This book is a witty, sometimes sad, but true life of jmatt. His writing style makes you feel like you were in the room with him during the dark times, but is also full of handy tips of ways to overcome some of life’s little hurdles that gay men can face. If you have seen the doc on bbc3 then it is a fuller story of what was on there. Read it, enjoy it, was something i couldn’t put down till I got to the end. Keep smiling big guy and lets see what else is creatively brewing in that head of yours.

Sarantos Continues His Edgy Experimentation And Releases A New Song as a tribute to David Bowie – „Tired Of Being Scared.“

Has anyone ever been scared? Has anyone ever been sick of being scared? Has anyone out there ever gotten tired of being scared? Sarantos has. Sarantos has never been scared of revealing the truth and allows fans a sincere glimpse into his real world as the journey continues. This song is a powerful, angst-ridden tribute to David Bowie combining modern elements of Coldplay to leave fans appreciating the uniqueness of this eclectic mixture. The rollercoster ride throughout the song deliberately leaves fans in a reflective mood. The tone of exasperated vocals and carefully placed vocal fry playing off the female harmonies leads right into the hidden meaning and charity for this song.

Sarantos feels that there should never be a reason for conflicted or confused young people struggling with feelings of sexuality to commit suicide! The Trevor Project is a leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) young people ages 13-24.

33% of any music-related sales profits from this song are going straight to The Trevor Project.

„This is a very special pop song to me,“ says Sarantos. „Since I love 80s music and am heavily influenced by it as I try to merge it with modern pop rock, I thought one day about David Bowie. I was inspired by David Bowie for many reasons. His music, creativity, video presence, style, and secondary messages to his art were truly an inspiration. I had been working on this song when he passed away earlier this year. In my heart, I tried to visualize what David would’ve wanted me to do with a song like this and so I made this a tribute song to him! Furthermore, I thought addressing yound suicide in the gay and lesbian community would be perfect for this song. The message really resonates with me. They have overcome many challenges and continue to fight for equality as they should. I hope they hear my call to arms and appreciate this song as much as I do. They should never be scared to be themselves! None of us should. Be who you are and be true to yourself. All the rest will take care of itself. I was scared to be myself for most of my life and I can’t believe I wasted all that time. No more. Let’s take on the world together!“

Sarantos‘ unique sound has been best described by industry insiders as „an emotionally powerful vocal style masterfully united with music that is a fusion of classic ’80s rock blended with modern soft rock and pop music.“

Since 2014, Sarantos has won over 25 awards with Akademia LA Music and Beat 100, while also being nominated for the International Music & Entertainment Awards and the Hollywood Songwriting Awards. Even without ever using a professional music studio, label, ad agency or radio promoters, Sarantos song “What If I Never See You Again” was in the top 200 on the majors list in the US for radio airplay according to the Digital Radio Tracker Top 200 charts. On the independent charts, Sarantos was in the top 10. He was on both these lists for most of 2015! Within 3 weeks of “Dreamer” being released in April 2016, it hit the #169 spot!

Sarantos has been writing lyrics since 4th grade and is passionate about the words he puts to the music. Music was always in his blood. Music was always a passion and much more than a hobby. Sarantos has written over 2,500 songs!

Having undergone several personal challenges with Sarantos‘ father passing away in 2010 after a long hard-fought battle with lung cancer, dealing with personal health issues like asthma, chronic allergies, eosinophilic esophagitis with a stricture the size of a straw, going thru life’s ups & downs, the timing was finally right to start pursuing his lifelong dream in 2014. And so it began. Sarantos main motivation remains, however, to raise money for charity.

33% of any music related sales are going straight to charity!

Sarantos has always been inclined to help people in need and is proud to release his music every month as a way to donate a portion of proceeds to charity, hopefully inspiring other artists to do the same. The website, Melogia (which in Greek means „with words“) was established by Sarantos, an aspiring singer and song writer.

The Power Vested In Me Book 1 The Gatherers – by A J King (Author), Toby Duckfield (Illustrator)

The book is a fantasy and mystery aimed at young adults, although lots of adults have informed me they have enjoyed the subject matter. It tells the story of 5 teenagers, who as new born babies, are given special powers by a mysterious stranger Thirteen years later he returns, brings them all together, introduces himself as Starkey and asks them to go on a series of quests for him. These quests involve them travelling back in time to five different periods of history, all of which I had to fully research especially as in some of them they encounter real characters from that time. Their escort to these destinations is the Riddleman, who takes them there, gives them a riddle they need to solve and leaves them returning once they have retrieved a specific item for Starkey.

The book also covers the real life struggles of the teenagers all of whom come from completely different backgrounds; it therefore touches on bullying, poverty and step parents. The children learn about team working, tolerating others and facing up to the consequences of your actions.

An inspiration for the book was David Bowie’s Starman. So I have tried to let ‘all the children boogie.’

5.0 out of 5 starsPure Stardust!

By Amazon Customer on 1 Feb. 2016

Format: Paperback Verified Purchase

The end of this book left me disappointed – because I wanted more immediately.
It is clear that the research carried out by the author as each quest unfolded was meticulous and accurate. As an introduction to the children and their particular skills it was spot on. The concept of time travel came across as believable, whether you believe it or not, and with the story having a modern setting with realistic teenager language throughout, it will be immediately appealing to them.
I didn’t get a feeling of similarity between this book and Harry Potter. If you like Harry Potter then you will enjoy „The Power Vested In Me“ but in its own right. Please don’t make us wait too long for the next one.

WAVES and Mycelium join forces

WAVES and Mycelium join forces

Monday 09 May 2016

2.0 tokens platform WAVES and bitcoin wallet Mycelium are collaborating to enable fiat transfers over the blockchain.

Blockchain tech is amazing, but it’s meaningless without adoption. Network effect counts: it’s why bitcoin is still #1 despite the fact that faster and arguably technically better protocols exist. So it’s extremely cool that WAVES and Mycelium have joined forces to allow users to shift money around using the blockchain, through Mycelium’s very user-friendly and popular wallet.

Mycelium represents a highly significant and strategic partnership for WAVES – and more are in the pipeline

WAVES: fiat on the blockchain

WAVES and Mycelium are both in the process of running crowdfunding campaigns. WAVES, which has raised almost $4 million to date, has an emphasis on solving real-world problems with blockchain technology. Core to the platform is the ability to issue, transfer, and exchange custom blockchain tokens – including those tied to national currencies through market-making services provided by fiat gateways. Besides liquidity provision and exchange services, gateways will also manage AML/KYC policies, so that decentralised blockchain value transfers are fully compliant. Fiat-equivalent tokens will be used for anything from remission to decentralised crowdfunding.

Mycelium: targeting mass adoption

Mycelium, meanwhile, is raising money for a major upgrade. The bitcoin wallet software already boasts more than 200,000 users. (Anecdotally, something like 10% of bitcoin transactions pass through Mycelium wallets – a figure I can’t verify but that sounds entirely plausible.) The upgrade will see the integration of WAVES fiat assets, enabling the transfer of national currencies with all the speed, efficiency and decentralisation that blockchain technology brings. It will also see third-party developers and blockchains adding wide-ranging new functionality to the wallet, with the aim of mass-market adoption in the fiat world.

Brave new world

We’re entering a new era of blockchain technology and adoption. Banks and big financial players are cottoning onto the benefits of distributed ledgers. Unfortunately, though, a huge amount of research and resources are being thrown at permissioned blockchains, about which I have significant concerns. WAVES offers an open chain that is fit for purpose for the needs of 21st century financial institutions. The fact that the project is building such strategic partnerships even before launch – with more to be announced in due course – is extremely positive.

WAVES is currently in development, with testnet already operational. The crowdfunding campaign will run until 31 May, with the launch of the platform set for summer 2016. You can find out more about Mycelium’s crowdfunder and wallet upgrades here, and about the WAVES ICO and platform here.

Paul Frees. The voice actor known as the „Man of 1,000 Voices.“

Paul was first heard across America on Old Time Radio shows, such as Suspense and Escape. You may have heard Paul as the Ghost Host at Disneyland and Disney World’s Haunted Mansion, or as dastardly Boris Badenov on The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show, as Professor Ludwig von Drake on The Wonderful World of Disney, as the ape in George of the Jungle, and as John Lennon and George Harrison in The Beatles cartoon series.

Paul was also heard on television commercials, as such characters as the Pillsbury Dougboy and Toucan Sam of Fruit Loops cereal.

In major motion pictures, Paul is heard in Spartacus, Patton, The War of the Worlds, as the Narrator of The Shaggy Dog, the original Lord of the Rings, The Return of the King, and many more.

This expanded 2nd Edition of Paul Frees’ official biography includes hundreds of rare photos and interviews, more personal information from wives and friends, updated professional credits, and letters between Paul and his first wife during WWII.

Foreword by June Foray. Afterword by Jay Ward biographer, Keith Scott.

„Great work! Couldn’t put it down.“

Skip Craig (Bullwinkle writer)

Leonard Maltin

I never dreamed that anyone would, or could, write an entire book about one of my favorite performers, Paul Frees, but Ben Ohmart has done the near-impossible in this entertaining and informative volume. Frees may not be a household name outside of film buffdom, but his work has been heard by untold millions on the soundtracks of movies, radio and TV shows, cartoons, commercials, and at Disneyland since the late 1940s. He was Boris Badenov, John Beresford Tipton (The Millionaire), and the Pillsbury Dough Boy; he played some of the Pirates of the Caribbean and the ghostly host of Walt Disney’s Haunted Mansion. He dubbed everyone from Orson Welles to Toshiro Mifune.
In real life, Frees was as outsized as some of the characters he portrayed, a bombastic personality whose arrogant demeanor and tendency to be on all the time masked a lonely and sensitive soul. With the help of Frees‘ family and colleagues, Ohmart has assembled a surprisingly personal portrait of the man, along with a staggering index of his work. (Old-time radio buffs will have a ball reading his broadcast chronology.)

Author Ohmart is also the proprietor of BearManor Media, which has launched an impressive series of books for film, radio and TV aficionados. He deserves our thanks and support. You can read more, and make purchases, at

Speaking of Great Voice Actors…

Over on my other website, I have a page devoted to some of the great animation voice thespians, including Daws Butler, Mel Blanc and June Foray. Once a week or so, someone writes to ask, „When you are going to put up something about Paul Frees?“ He was certainly in that category. In his day, he did as many cartoons as any man alive, and was darn near ubiquitous in commercials, narration and even the redubbing of other actors in movies. So he certainly deserves attention but, as I write the folks who ask why I haven’t done an article on him, I never really met Paul Frees (only once on the phone) and have never felt I knew enough about him to write anything worth reading.

Fortunately, someone else does and has. I’m just reading and enjoying Welcome, Foolish Mortals… which is subtitled, „The Life and Times of Paul Frees,“ a much-needed book by Ben Ohmart. It has an intro by June Foray, who played Natasha when Paul played Boris Badenov. It has an outro by Keith Scott, an amazing Australian voice talent who has since assumed some of Paul’s roles. And in between, Ben tells us who Paul was, how he worked, how he lived…everything. Much of this book is a recitation of parts that Frees played on TV and in movies, and you’ll find yourself saying, „I didn’t know that was Paul Frees.“ (Here’s one Ben missed: Near the beginning of the movie Gigi, there’s a scene where Louis Jordan has a scene with several men who have been skillfully redubbed by Guess Who.) If this kind of thing interests you, you need this book. The title, by the way, refers to the job many people identify with Paul: The host at Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion.

You can purchase this new book from Amazon at this link or directly from the author’s company at this link. Ordering from the second of these may cost you a buck or two more (and will not pay me my Amazon kickback) but personally, I always like to see as much of the money as possible going to the author. And while you’re at it, also order Scenes For Actors and Voices, a collection of scripts written by the great Daws Butler and compiled into a book by Joe Bevilacqua and Ben. Here’s the link for Amazon and here’s the link for the publisher. Lots of good stuff at the latter site.

Classic Images, Laura Wagner. October 2004

Voiceover master Paul Frees finally gets his due in Welcome, Foolish Mortals The Life and Voices of Paul Frees by Ben Ohmart, foreword by June Foray. Keith Scott, in his afterword, best sums up this gem of a book: „It’s a timely tribute to one of the greatest and most neglected performers in the history of American entertainment.“

His work is widely known, although never documented, but, until now, nothing was known about Frees the man. The reason is simple: Paul Frees was and is an enigma, a complicated man who led a private, often secretive life. He was stylish and flamboyant in public, but underneath was a man of mystery. He’s the kind of subject inclined to intimidate writers and researchers alike. Author Ben Ohmart, brave soul, has taken on the herculean task of uncovering what was once unknown – and he succeeds most admirably, and authoritatively.

Think of the work – the work of a workaholic. The amount of material the author has to shift through is monumental. The credit list that concludes the book is incredible. A lesser writer would have let these extensive credit lists „speak for themselves,“ but since they are just the bare bones of Frees‘ career, Ohmart fleshes it out by discussing, in detail, the radio work, the voices, the film „roles,“ the recordings, and the cartoons. Frees was also a writer, and many of his projects went unseen, so the discussion (and quoting) from this material is interesting and a revelation to his fans.

The area of Frees‘ recordings is my favorite, and I love the author’s descriptive abilities. It’s almost as good as listening to the real thing, and it makes the book not only informative, but fun as well. I laughed out loud on a few occasions at some of the Jay Ward (Bullwinkle), Disney and Spike Jones stuff. Paul Frees was a genius!

Utilizing extensive, detailed interviews with family, friends and co-workers (the book is filled with quotes), a personal portrait of Paul Frees takes shape. We learn of his ego, his obsessions, and his loneliness, and his complex relationship with his son. The author’s interviews with Paul’s son are most revealing and insightful, and they bring a great deal to the narrative and to our understanding of the elusive personal side of the artist.

Frees‘ great sense of humor dominates, however, and Ohmart gets some great stories about Frees cutting up in recording sessions, and one particularly hilarious anecdote from Frees‘ son regarding the shooting of a tarantula in the backyard. But as fun as this book is, when things get bad in Paul’s life, Ohmart is right there with a sensitive handling of the situations.

Author Ben Ohmart looks beyond the voices (and excesses) to uncover the man within, coming up with an evenhanded, totally honest portrait of a very complicated individual. This is the definitive biography of an amazing artist. The terrific photos (more than 100) are mostly unseen – and are treasures. If you’re a fan of Paul Frees, this is a must.

„Ben Ohmart’s Welcome, Foolish Mortals is obviously a work of devotion. Ohmart has dedicated extensive time and research to recreating the life and career of Paul Frees, one the most prolific voice actors in the mid 20th century.“

With Aristotle Online: A student chats with the great philosopher through the Internet about Alexander the Great and much, much more… Paperback – April 19, 2016

Three o’clock in the morning. The young student, AlexanderMegas, had had enough of the endless internet surfing that was getting him nowhere. He’d been searching for hours, trying to what Aristotle had taught his most famous pupil, Alexander the Great, and he was tired. But as he reached out his hand to log off, the screen was suddenly filled with the head of Aristotle, a living, speaking image that spoke to him in a soft, sweet voice: “What are you looking for, lad? I’ve been watching you search for hours. Is there something I can help you with?” Those are the first words in a long conversation about the personality and achievements of Alexander the Great and the life and work of Aristotle, with a brief look at other Ancient Greek philosophers for good measure. Democracy, slavery, drinking parties and homosexuality are just some of the subjects they talk about. Alexander also hears the whole dialogue between Socrates and Crito, which took place after Socrates had been sentenced to death. This is a veritable hymn to democracy, and very much worth reading. The discussion also touches on the mathematical structure of Ancient Greek, and challenges the common notion that the ancient Greeks thought scientific experimentation was unworthy of a philosopher. All these subjects are presented and discussed in a simple, pleasant, easy-to-follow way, so that with no particular effort the average general reader ends up with a good overall picture of Ancient Greek literature and — we hope — an incentive to read more.
