5.0 out of 5 starsI hope every avid reader has a chance to read this

Every author, and reader, knows that those first few sentences are the most important. If you can get the reader past the first few sentences then hook them on the first few paragraphs, then the first few chapters. Olivia Black did just that.
There are some opening chapters that stay with you, in a way that haunts you, and eggs you on to the point that you simply CANNOT put the book down for fear of remaining ignorant of the protagonist’s story. This is one of those books. Not only is the narration GREAT quality (and I can’t emphasize this enough) but it is written in such a way that you sympathize with the characters. Going into the first few chapters you can recognize that the situation at hand could happen to anyone, and though the main character’s actions, Olivia’s actions, aren’t unusual, they take you a bit by surprise. I was supporting her almost every step of the way.
As Olivia takes each step of recognizing what a divorce really does (No longer addressing herself by the same name, sleeping alone, etc) her reality affects the reader more and more. The book (and plot) is written wonderfully, with a touch of elegance. I won’t say too much more on the plot for fear of spoilers, but it was definatly a read that I am still thinking about (and will most likely be reread by the end of this year).
All in all, I am extremely pleased with this purchase. The characters- even the side ones- are extremely relatable and the heroine goes through some fabulous character development. A full 10/10 and highly recommended, I hope every avid reader has a chance to read this book.

5.0 out of 5 starswonderful story

Falling Forward is a book that will draw you in immediately. Well written with a lead character that you’ll empathize with and want to see overcome the turmoil that surrounds her. The story follows a woman who spent her life helping save other people’s lives. She’s an oncologist and thought her life was stable. She couldn’t have been more wrong. Her life gets turned upside down on her birthday of all days. She escapes the embarrassment and devastation of her husband’s arrest and infidelity. 42 years old and facing such heartache, she is surprised to find herself falling for a younger man on her trip. This book is an easy read and perfect for travel or a relaxing weekend. I look forward to more of Olivia Black’s work.

5.0 out of 5 starsPoetic love story from the ashes of despair

After nearly two decades of marriage Dr. Olivia Garvin is dead – metaphorically speaking that is. After discovering the awful truth of her husband’s affair she realizes she’s 42 and starting over. From the first chapter of „Falling Forward“ to the surprising end I was a ball of emotions. Author Olivia Black has accomplished a great feat – a poetic love story from the ashes of despair. The work was so gripping I read the entire book in one sitting. I related to Liv’s divorce (a month this week myself) and felt her struggle to cope with the past/present/future of her disheveled world. As I followed Liv’s adventure I began to see the light at the end of the tunnel in my own life. By the end I felt peace. Just as the protagonist in the story had no clue where the future would lead her she traveled confidently. I have become inspired by the trait. This is a wonderful story for every woman. Olivia Black is a visionary author. I look forward to reading her other works.

5.0 out of 5 starsBittersweet and Beautiful!

I fell in Love with the book with the first chapter: Dead at 42! Well – actually the title hooked and drew me in . . . it was the story that followed which began a love affair – I won’t soon forget.
As it turned out the death was metaphorical – but the meaning was all too real a death of one’s very existence, an existence that had been based upon sleepwalking lies that resulted in the death of one’s soul – that was ultimately their salvation with the rebirth that followed.
In a word – unforgetable!
Not all great love affairs last forever – the great ones don’t need to in order to shake your foundation to the core – as „Falling Forward“ shook mine.
One of my favorite passages:
„Love is painfully thin with distinct lines in her face, but her gut is an inevitable chasm you and everyone you know will helplessly fall into at some point in your life . Very few people escape . Love has got bright green eyes that in a single momentary glance can captivate any red-blooded person and make you believe whatever she says. She has wild red hair that flows like a perfect fire. Her voice is sometimes soft and sultry, yet at times as raspy as a cigarette smoker and as loud as a carnival barker. She resides in your heart, no matter how physically impossible that may be according to any neurologist. If you’ve ever fallen in or out of love, you’ve felt that sympathetic metaphysical connection directly in the left side of your chest. And you know those tugs are more than just your imagination. Writers write about her. Singers sing about her. Lovers breathe through her. Psychiatrists help you get over her, and double-dip as they help you learn how to get into her again. No matter how hard you think you are, you cannot ignore her. She is innately omnipresent.Read more ›

5.0 out of 5 starsWritten well

A different and fresh new read. The story is unique and captivating, it’s written in a way that for me stayed entertaining and intriguing from start to finish. There are many twists and turns that are hard to anticipate and foresee as the story progresses, adding an element of suspense to the read for me and contributing another big factor in why I enjoyed the book so much.
The characters are also very original, each fitting into the story in their own unique way with just the right amount of detail for them to not seem too plain or too over the top. I enjoyed how the plot progresses, it’s definitely well thought-out and you can tell that the author has put a lot of passion and effort and not just time into making this book the best that it possibly can be. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for future releases by Olivia Black
