UN wants to cooperate in human rights field

Luanda – The coordinator of UN System in Angola Thursday expressed interest to keep cooperating with the Angolan State in human rights field in order to boost development and consolidation of democracy in Angola.

Maria do Valle Ribeiro said so at the opening ceremony of the  Inter-sector Commission for Preparation of National Reports on Human Rights (CIERDH).


The meeting is intended to prepare report  that will be submit to the UN conference scheduled for November in Geneva, Switzerland.


Also UNDP representative resident, the official also reiterated the continued support of UN agencies to Angola so that the development and democracy can benefit women, men, children and young Angolans.


Maria do Valle Ribeiro stressed the creation and operation of provincial human rights committees and the participation of civil society, churches and interest groups (youth and children).


According to her, these initiatives will allow the situation of Human Rights to have an accurate picture and the size of the national territory.


The UN official said that she believes that the committees will allow to know the impact of policy and legislative measures aimed at protecting the citizens in the political, social, economic, cultural and environmental fields.


Maria do Valle Ribeiro defended greater involvement of media outlets in dissemination of results and progress and identifying the improvements recorded in Human Rights field.
